Broken Mirror

Inspired by The Winged Victory - a statue of the goddess Nike, who, despite missing many parts of her body and having been heavily restored, is regarded as a work of exquisite beauty, endurance and a representation of victory in all forms.

The Broken Mirror is constructed from two hand-made, ruined plaster plinths framing a pane of fragmented glass. It is designed to stand as an invitation to witness ourselves wholly, cracked, chipped and enduring in a story known only to us, with the same reverence we have for the time-worn statue of Nike.

What is it about The Winged Victory that we consider so beautiful and worthy of love? And can we ask the same question of ourselves, transcending our physical forms, when standing in front of own reflections?
